Your child’s welfare is very important to all the staff at Belswains. Several members of staff are qualified first aiders who are trained to deal with minor illnesses and injuries.
Emergency Contact Information
It is important that we have up to date information (home, work and mobile phone numbers) so that we can contact you, or someone else nominated by you, in an emergency.
Children Looked After
The Headteacher oversees the education and general well-being of children who are in the care of the Local Authority. He monitors their progress and liaises closely with parents, carers and social workers. A member of the Governing Body oversees the school’s provision for Children Looked After and meets with the Headteacher each term to ensure statutory responsibilities are carried out.
Please contact the school office before 9.15 a.m. if your child is ill and will not be attending school. It is especially important to notify us if the condition is one which might be transmissible to other children. We follow guidance issued by the Health Protection Agency and ask that you keep your child at home for 48 hours after their last bout of sickness or diarrhoea.
Leave of Absence Requests
At Belswains Primary School authorisation for leave of absence from school for in term time is considered on an individual basis and will only be granted in exceptional circumstances and it must also meets the following conditions:
A request is made at least three weeks in advance of the leave to the Headteacher by the Parent and must be made on the ‘Leave Of Absence Request Form’ which is available from the school office, school website and from the display case outside the office. The leave does not take place during the first 2 weeks of the school year. For children in Y2 and Y6, the leave does not take place during SATs or the 4 weeks prior to the start of SATs (SATs take place during May. Exact dates are published to parents at the start of the school year). For children in Y3, Y4 and Y5, the leave does not take place during the non-statutory SATs. (These take place during May/June. Exact dates are published to parents at the start of the school year)
Please see below for a H1 – Application for Leave of Absence
If your child is fit to attend school but has to take medication during the day, e.g. to finish a course of antibiotics, you should make your own arrangements for administering the medicine.
If your child has a special medical need, e.g. asthma or a severe allergic reaction, we ask that you inform us in writing of the medication your child needs and of any special procedures we need to follow if your child becomes unwell while at school. Staff receive annual training from the school nurse on the administration of adrenalin (epi-pen).
Safeguarding (Child Protection)
We work in partnership with parents and carers to support children in any way we can. The Children Act 1989 places a clear responsibility on schools to ensure that they work together with other agencies to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children. As a result, if concerns are raised within the school, or a child or parent reports a situation involving possible non-accidental injury, neglect or abuse (sexual, physical or emotional), we would not be able to guarantee confidentiality. The concern would be referred to the Local Authority.
All adults working or volunteering in school and on school trips undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.
At Belswains we are committed to ensuring all children are given the opportunity to fully participate in all curricular and extra-curriculum activities. We have made several adaptations to our site to improve accessibility for children and visitors with disabilities. Furthermore, we do not discriminate against any member of the school community on the grounds of their age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
