Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium Funding

Pupil Premium funding is additional funding received by the school. The funding is calculated based on the number of pupils eligible, over the last six years, for Free School Meals. The funds have to be used on initiatives which assist these pupils in reaching their full potential, both academically and socially.

What is pupil premium funding?

Pupil premium funding from the government is given to schools to help pupils reach their full potential, regardless of their background or financial situation. It’s provided for pupils who:

  • Are registered for free school meals
  • Have been registered for free school meals at any point in the past 6 years
  • Are, or have been, in care
  • Have parents in the armed forces

For the academic year 2022-23 if you register your child for free school meals and they are eligible for pupil premium, as a school we offer each child £100 to spend over the course of the academic year on trips, breakfast club, after school clubs (not Good Shepherd provision), uniform or swimming lessons. You can inform the school office know how you’d like to spend this provision and they will organise accordingly.

Each child will also receive a school water bottle, be eligible to receive free school milk and school lunches.

Is my child eligible for free school meals?

Your child may be eligible if you access:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit run-on
  • Universal Credit

Furthermore, please note, if your child is moving from year 2 into year 3 and you think you’ll be eligible for free school meals, you also need to apply, otherwise school meals will be charged to you at £2.78 per day.

Does my child have to eat the free school meals?

No. Pupils who are registered for free school meals don’t have to eat them. If you’re eligible but you want your child to have packed lunches you should still register because the school will receive the funding which can support your child in other ways.

How do I register?

To register, please follow the steps laid out at https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals

If you have any questions or specific concerns, please contact the school office.
